Child Support Plan new look
Child support payments in Georgia are a new “look” of the 21st century because of budget cuts on the Georgia Department of Human Resources Office of Child Support Enforcement.
Instead of posting of paper checks, because the state is currently the case, children are payments in cash, either by direct deposit in a bank account or on the stand issued plastic debit cards, starting August.
Beneficiaries may Cash at no charge, that the Bank tellers accept MasterCard, obtain cash from ATMs for a small fee or use debit cards for point-of-Sale transactions.
“It makes a big difference for thousands of parents, children need support for their children and remain independent,” said Robert Riddle, director of the Office of Child Support Enforcement.
“More than 20 percent of parents who are already using direct deposit, which remains an option, if they have bank accounts. The new debit cards provide another option, so that all children receive support for their payments more quickly and avoid registration redemption costs. ”
Recipients receive their money quickly and Riddle, said the new system will help to prevent certain issues and problems.
For example, paper checks can be counterfeit, stolen or lost in the mail. In addition, some beneficiaries of bank accounts, without being able to connect high to pay registration fees repurchase operations, which are no longer happen.
Under the new system, the money within 48 hours instead of three to 20 days, which now takes for the price.
“One of the thoughts we had was that we message to 40000 checks per month or 1.4 million per year, which is a set of controls to keep in mind,” said Riddle.
“Often, the checks would be returned if the recipient is not moved and leave a forwarding address. We are here dealing with a very transient population.”
Management expects to save approximately $ 6 million per year on child benefit consider printing, mailing and administrative costs if the new system will enter into force on 6 August.
The Office of Child Support Enforcement said his budget this year as part of a nationwide campaign to strengthen belt.
Georgia is only the second state, after Iowa, the Institute for debit cards and direct deposit child support.
Riddle said 65 per cent of children in Georgia, already beneficiaries choose the option of direct deposit.
The new system will not change the nature and how to take care of the child payments are made by measures of non-custodial supervision, but parents.
“We believe that people are beginning to the implementation of this and get used, they love it,” said Riddle. “It’s something usual.”
